Story behind the place (mini story)
Built by the Ottomans in the 15th century (c. 1450 - 1470), the White Tower is the only surviving piece of Thessaloniki’s sea defenses. Once serving as barracks and a prison - known as the “Tower of Blood” - it later took its present name after the city’s liberation in 1912. Today, it houses a museum and overlooks the waterfront as one of the city’s most emblematic historical monuments...
